"Every single death of a child is one too many."

KYIV, 1 Aug 2025 - The latest attacks in Kyiv are yet again another grim reminder that this war is still shattering the lives of children, Save the Children said.

Following the recent attacks on Kyiv, which killed at least five children and injured another 16, Ahmad Alhendawi, Save the Children’s Regional Director for Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe said:

“Every single death of a child is one too many. Even though the situation in Ukraine no longer dominates headlines like it once did, the reality on the ground is worsening. Drone and missile attacks launched on Ukraine have surged in recent months, which is only deepening the suffering and fear of children. In the first six months of this year, 373 children were killed or injured, a nearly 40% increase compared to the same time last year.

“The constant stress children endure every day under relentless bombardment is beyond unimaginable. For more than three years, children across Ukraine have had their childhoods ripped away. They’ve been forced from their homes and schools – many of them now destroyed – lost loved ones, and live in fear as air raid alerts, drones, explosions and unexploded ordnance consume the world around them.

“Children didn’t start this war, yet they are paying the highest price and urgently need this devastation to end. Only a true end to the hostilities will ease the suffering we are witnessing.”
