More than 130,000 refugees and asylum-seeking children living near Tanzania’s border with Burundi could lose access to education and all essential services in coming weeks due to an accelerated repatriation programme.

For years, Ndikiray struggled to provide enough nutritious food for her two young sons, relying on basic meals that left them vulnerable to malnutrition. Save the Children Tanzania, in partnership with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, has launched an innovative and scalable solution: “Adopt a Child Care Centre”This public-private partnership calls upon visionary businesses, philanthropists, faith-based organizations, diaspora members, and individuals to sponsor and sustain Child Care Centres across Zanzibar. These centres serve as safe, nurturing spaces where children can learn through play, receive nutritious meals, access early health screening, and benefit from the care of trained professionals all aligned with the globally recognized Nurturing Care Framework.

Save the Children Tanzania is seeking a consultancy firm or individual to conduct a comprehensive baseline assessment for the "Increasing Access to Improved School Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SWASH) Facilities" project in Zanzibar. This 18-month project, funded by the Big Heart Foundation, aims to enhance access to age-, disability-, and gender-appropriate SWASH facilities and improve Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in 10 public primary schools across Zanzibar's Unguja and Pemba districts.We are looking for experienced consultants with expertise in SWASH and MHM to assess the current state of school hygiene facilities, practices, and the challenges faced by students—particularly girls and children with disabilities. As part of the Vijana Plus Project, Save the Children and Tanzania Bora Initiative are looking for eight dynamic facilitators to support 40 youth-led CSOs across Tanzania. Facilitators will guide each organization through a self-assessment process and help them develop customized capacity development plans. The role requires strong facilitation, report writing skills, and experience in organizational strengthening.

Save the Children is seeking a skilled consultant to lead qualitative research for a learning initiative focused on community-led disaster preparedness and response in Hanang District, following the December 2023 floods and mudslides. The role involves refining research tools, supporting data collection, analyzing findings, and drafting a comprehensive report and policy brief. The assignment spans approximately 40 working days.

More than 1.8 million children will miss out on learning due to aid cuts impacting Save the Children’s education programmes in over 20 countries

March 21, 2025, Dar es Salaam – Save the Children, in partnership with Tanzania Bora Initiative, officially launched the EU-funded "Vijana Plus" project, valued at over €2 million, with a goal of reaching 700,000 youth and 40 youth-led CSOs directly across Tanzania.The Vijana Plus project is designed to strengthen the capacity of youth-led civil society organizations (CSOs) and young leaders in Tanzania, enabling them to become independent actors of good governance and development.

Through Vijana Plus program, selected organizations will receive:✅ Capacity-building training on strategic planning, organizational management, and sustainable project implementation.✅ Funding and mentorship to implement innovative youth-led projects.✅ Support in building strong organizational systems for long-term impact.
